Hey tru blu and mskraizy,

I was trying to find the article I read about scab hair and the x-ray that was associated with it, but could not.  It is believed that chemicals can stay under the scalp for 6 months and this is based on how long you have been relaxing your hair.  I relaxed for almost 30 years, so you know I have some buildupLOL.  I am attaching the link from motowngirl.com that addresses scab hair:

I wish I bookmarked that article that clearly showed how the chemicals found in relaxers can penetrate the scalp and leave a coating.

Hey latamoni, I use ORS on a regular basis and found that it is a light protein and can also double as a moisterizing conditioner as well.  If you are experiencing breakage consider your protein/moisture balance.  Below is my bible link about protein and moisture:

Bunnie (girl you a trip), great suggestion of this postClap! Really, we're all here to learn and have healthy hair so its great idea to have it in one spot for all of us!

In regards to texture change, I just want to say that as long term former relaxer users, your scalp may not only go through scab hair, the texture itself will go through several changes as the residue of the relaxer is purged from your system. So, not only will your scalp health improve but the texture will change as well. This texture change will occur over years. So, you truly can EXPECT the UNEXPECTED.

Another suggestion I would like to offer is to clarify your hair. You can use baking soda, Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV), or a clarifying poo/conditioner. I do so 1x per month. Clarifying helps remove build-up of products from your hair and scalp. I don't use alot of product on a daily basis so 1x per month is sufficient for me; but for others you may need it more frequently.

Remember: Your hair makes sebum or naturally occuring oil, so you do not want to clarify too much and/or too often, which could strip your hair. When you feel like your hair is itchy(not that itch that can signal growth) and/or your products aren't doing what they usually do think about the last time you clarified your hair before you switch products. If you clarify and the problem still persist, you may need to change products.

ANother way to get a clue to your true texture is to look at your family members' hair if they have it and are natural.  There is a patch of my hair that is courser than the rest.  Listening to all of yalls scab hair stories had me thinking that was what it was.  But then I looked at my families hair...both of my sisters and even my dad have a tighter courser texture in the same spot so it's nothing to worry about.

For those of you who are obsessed with hair growing down and showing length, it might happen sooner than you think.  My hair is 9 inches all around and I just discovered that it's starting to hang when I wear twistouts.  But no matter what it does, love it anyway.  it's yours and it's on your head.

thanks Bunnie, I read from A-V
and I had relaxers on & off from like age 3-11 i believe
so the texture change would be great not that I dont love my hair, I would love more defined curls tho

A lot of naturals believe their hair is protein sensitive but use products containing aloe vera and silk amino acids. Both are protein products. I think most naturals will be fine with at least using light protein.

Trimming:  I could not understand why my hair would not hang the way I trimmed it.  Dummy me was trimming my curly hair while wet.  It took me awhile to realize that I have several textures on my head and each area shrinks to different lengths when my hair is dryingLOL.

I did my yearly dusting last week on dry hair.
