ja I still have the exact same problem.  This can be very hard to pin down for some shades of brown.  Seems like it changes every day or I'm just crazy as hellLOL.      What colors have you tried and what were the results with each?

Kfoxx I havent tried anything really I bought mmaybeline true match but it wasnt matching lol. I bought it at target and in that light it looked right I took it home and looked like a asain women it was shameful. Oh I also tried this cover girl powder made me ashy and some bss stuff that looked
terrible.

Do you remember what number you purchased?  Like C6, W5 etc.  

With LOreal it is supposed to go by undertone.  If you pick the wrong undertone you get an ashy white look most of the time.  With Loreal C=Cool, N=Neutral, W=Warm

Undertone is a constant struggle for me.  But here are some charts I found that might explain better.
