when i listen to jay im not listening for social consciousness

in fact im not even looking for a role model

thus i would not like to her jay speak on social issues but his acknowledgement of pressing things like the trayvon martin tragedy would have been great just like he did for gay marriage

i also think also he possesses a great deal of (quenstionable) intelligence but lacks insight on social matters. i would also peg him to be inartiuclate on such matters

the knowles carters do make for wonderful headlines and scapegoats

I have to agree.  J's "brilliance" is limited to certain themes.

Rappers need to stick to what they're good at.
I wish Lupe would have done that.
I used to stan for him now I can't stand him.

nick nack patty wack give a dog a bone...lol

ummm that's what i was trying to say earlier.  i'm not really looking for mofo's who focus their efforts on delivering pop culture-esque type entertainment (which i most definately enjoy myself from time to time) to have the desire and/or capacity to speak on important social matters.  i mean if they are capable and do, that is a definate plus.  but, if they don't...meh.

at the same token, i don't expect for them to start running off at the mouth sporadically about important social matters when it is convienient for them either.  just stfu and stay in your frivolous azz lane...

I just think when the entertainers stan for the others it undermines everything we as a community try to do. I hate when an important topic comes up and whites/media point to or look to entertainers for insight.

And a lot of kids do look up to these ppl, quoting them and following their lifestyle. Sad but true. The entertainers either need to come into the fold of unifying the black community or we need to.stop supporting them to ley ppl know he/she does not speak for me

Oh and great article, hs said exactly what i was trying to.say before. At this point in certain entertainers careers it wouldn't hurt them one bit just to take a stand. No one is asking for a speech but stop picking and choosing when you want to be considered black.

agree 100%

Y'all might be right.  I do feel like Jay ONLY came out support gay rights because the president is very clear on his position.  If the president starts to discuss Trayvon and black issues in a meaningful way and THEN Jay and Bey start making statements they are official opportunists.  Not that we need proofLOL
