Actually those of us (88-93) pretty much came up with Drake becuase of Degrassi. So he didn't come "from the bottom" at all. We in that age group held him down from day 1 jr.

Yes but he already had a large fan base to support him. He wasn't like Wale in '06 or Dom Kennedy in '07 when it was just us NTers listening to them. Drake was already well established jr.

You're missing the point. The bottom is selling records out your trunk because no one's heard of you. Drake didn't have to do that.
Biggie rapped on the streets, Nas rapped in parks, Big Sean rapped at college campuses with just a boom box and a mic, Wale road up and down Georgia Ave, KDP and the danger zone for suport, J. Cole went to Saint Johns and pretty much stalked Hov for a chance
Drake got to skip that because he was already in the middle.
