He still lied, which is what people were harping on. He lied to dozens of people separately (his parents and separate interviewers) and perpetuated a story when he realized that it was making him a national hero.

he lied to protect the fact that he was being duped.
which is what anyone who's been that naive/heart on the sleeve should do in that situation.

And he lied to reporters before knowing and after knowing that he was duped.

does that make a difference?
does 'hey, i've been lying about it. and this girl is really a guy, and i never met her really' sound?

was he suppose to kill his own dignity for the sake of remaining honest?

he should've just stopped answering questions about it and referring to it in statements until the season was over.  he could've asked for privacy since it was a bad time for it come out.

There's still discrepancies between what he said now (after waiting days to get his official story together) and then.

For example, he says he told his dad that he met Lennay for the first time in Hawaii last year.

Yet the dad said months ago that he first met Lennay at Stanford in 2009.

lol it's obvious he was duped. But it's also obvious he caught got in a web of lies that benefited him. Teammates knew he wasn't close to Lennay, even though he was going on national tv saying that he was.
