here is my TRAGIC STORY:CryCryCryCryCry
I took the plunge about a week ago now and went to get A (DBO) needless to say I really think this old lady put a relaxer mixed with conditioner in my natural hair during the shampoo/conditioner process. I was so excited to have my hair done I ignored my instincts. first a young girl shampooed and conditioned my hair then this other lady came over and asked her a question in (Spanish) and the girl said NO! the older lady then added more conditioner and then rinsed it out. She escorted me to the stylist chair and parted my hair in 4 sections and clipped them in clips. When she combed my hair the comb kind of just slid thru I have 4b hair but its fine NOT coarse so its very soft and never done well with chemicals. Anyway the stylist blew out my hair with the high HEAT and my hair was RELAXER Straight. I thanked, Tipped an left... as the week went on I noticed that my hair felt just like a relaxer and it was thin and weak! I expected it to revert but it stayed mostly sleeek just like a relaxer yesterday I washed it and it is MUSHY and breaking and it LOOK's just like a whack texturizer.  its mushy and breaking! My natural hair textures is GONE! I sincerely think the older lady put RELAXER in my hair! I can't believe it! I called the salon and they insist its just the heat but I don't Trust the owner I am ready to file a complaint with the professional licensing board of NY Secretary of State. and Small claims court. How could some one do this to Me? Cry what should I do?

Oh I am soo sorry to here this Cry. Some dominican shops do put relaxers in their conditioners I learned this from a beautician that I used to go to for my blow outs.  You have to be really careful. I always suggest to bring your own products down to the heat protectant if it is not your regular beautician.  I did this and with a salon that I usually don't go to, but I needed my hair done real quick and they used all my products of course they charged me more because my hair wasn't relaxed Confused

Omgoodness!!!!

Horror story indeed. The salon I went to, I damn near interviewed the lady on the phone and when I got there. I washed my hair and my hair completely reverted back to its true 4b/4c ways... I then went and got a weave. Cause i liked the DBO way too much

I heard the dominican salons put keratin in their products which makes your hair straighter longer. Don't do anything drastic like cut it. Wait some time.

I am surprised by the thinness of my hair. I am not sure if my hair is thin because of all the braids I've been wearing or because of DNA? I don't feel comfortable with this! I look like a different person Although everyone else says it looks nice its just straight no flavor

I had the exact same feeling.... Thinness... Blah...looks like a relaxer. Smh. No kink, coil or curl. I so feel you naturesgift
I'm glad I got it cause I couldn't decide if I needed a trim. But obviously I did.

I have very thin/fine hair genetically.  When I get a blow out at a Dominican owned salon, my hair always feels super thin and sleek -- it's so fine that the ponytail holder just falls right out. I think that's just a characteristic of their technique.  They hardly use any product so your hair will stay lightweight and it's about as straight as it will ever be.  That takes a lot of the bulk out of your hair.

I'll tell you this much. I used to do a DBO every two weeks when my hair was relaxed...and it didn't do my hair ANY good.

1. The stylists have been using the blow dryer all day. At least in my Dominican Hair Salon, there had no heat setting on their blow dryer. It's either on or off. So the heat was so excruciatingly hot, you can imagine what kind of damage it must've done on my relaxed hair. You DONT want that heat on your hair -- use a GOOD heat protectant.

2. Again, this was in MY Dominican Hair Salon. Some of the stylists don't understand English. So if you must, speak to someone who can understand English and ask them to repeat in Spanish what you want done to your hair to the stylist.

3. You're paying your money so don't be afraid to speak up and ask what YOU want. I suggest you bring your own heat protectant and deep conditioner, they might skimp a little on you since its their product.

4. I don't suggest you get a DBO...although the results are AMAZING and beautiful. I mean seriously, you get a DBO, your hair is LAID! But the downside? The risks of getting heat damage is pretty high. Maybe invest in a good blow dryer & flat iron (with steam) and straighten it yourself? Because no one will treat your hair as well as you do =]
