if not miss, the time to think about whether your chosen field is viable is NOW, not after you have gone to college and amassed tens of thousands of dollars in debt from school.  most importantly, this is debt that you are unable to pay because you cannot.   find.   a.    job.

are you getting a full scholarship to either of these schools that you're contemplating?  have you visited a campus and talked to students there about the program and whether it is really for you?  have you researched job viability in your choice of careers?  on a quick glance i saw that only 11% of those in some fashion fields will work in their field and earn more than 25,000% annually.

bhm is not the place to get answers, though bella and i forget who else seem like they'd have more info than anyone else.  listen to what they are saying without rose colored glasses.  what type of networking opportunities does the school you're thinking of have? in the fashion industry word of mouth can make you a superstar, not having a name can land you in the food giveaway line.

why do you want to go into this field?  what makes you think you'll be successful?

you're the same age as my daughter, and everything that i'm saying is not to dissuade you from any decsion, but youth is no excuse for poor planning when you have people giving you a heads up about real life. 

this is YOUR life, plan for it accordingly and you can have all that you dreamed.  i hope to turn on bravotv in 5 years and see khandi's closet or niaomi's niche.

I agree with Dreamz. You need to take all that to heart. And as a 26 year old with student loan debt...find as many scholarships and grants you can find...the best amount of student loans is 0. If you have to take student loans, it should only be for tuition. You should not be using loans to live (ie for housing, transportation, books, food, etc.), that is what a job is for. Believe me you will regret it in the future if you do.

Also, my little sister who is 23 is studying fashion design. She attended Parson's in Paris for 1 year (her bf's fam paid for it). Now she's currently working on her AA degree at a cc. She will tell anyone it makes much more sense to do it at a cc (and the education is just as good as what she received at Parsons) than pay the tuition for FIDM or FIT or any of these private schools if you have to take out loans. She has so many friends who have a bunch of debt and either no job or jobs that are not in the industry. Fashion is one of those industries where you have to hustle hard. My sister knows a bunch of people in the industry so that's really helped her.

Make sure you have a practical skill/degree to go along with the fashion. Since you want to do fashion merchandising, you may want to get an accounting degree or something financial. And you should be trying to work in your industry now.
