LIM was my dream school ; got accepted and everythang but momma couldn't afford it. Got accepted at Marymount for a Fashion Merchandising as well but it was too expensive.
So I settled for FIT. Its aight lol, just super competitive.
You'd have to be skripping and selling crack full-time to afford Parsons or Pratt though

I go to Marymount for Fashion Design. It is expensive but I got a scholarship. With Marymount, they have so many connections, you have to be doing absolutely nothing to not find a job after graduation. They force you to intern as part of the program so you’ll already have experience. Different designers come to our huge fashion show at the end of each year and sometimes we get a chance to sit down and talk to them. It all depends on how much you want to be in the industry and who you know. Here, youll be doing alot of networking

i have to admire her hustle. she's applied for internships, she has applied to everything you can apply for within her 'scope'. the fact of it, is, there simply are jobs all lined up for folks to dress and style other people. she can't even get a managerial position.
but since y'all don't know me, i will also add that she isn't particularly attractive and is also badly built. i think that since that field is so visual, it's just not going to be a match made in heaven.
op are you cute? cute, in certain fields, sometimes outweighs a good school or a degree. if you are above an 8 let me know, i may amend my first response.
| Man...it be all types of busted white women within the industry . But they got that complexion for the protection smh. I think confidence matters the most. If she can find nice clothes to cover her "badly built" body she should be fine. She should apply to H&M, it would be a great experience and management makes pretty damn good money (most managers there don't have degrees). The fashion industry is especially harder for black women to break into because we are ultimately competing with: White women White men Asians Gay Black men

It most definitely does. For example, theres a wall on the fashion floor of a building here strictly for jobs and information. A store just opened in Georgetown and before it opened, we were one of the first to know that they were hiring. Fashion students even helped with the grand opening (which is something to put on your resume). Our fashion club helps with Nordstrom events and All Access shows, which is also something resume-worthy and is a great opportunity for networking. Our big show is 100% planned by us fashion students and that too can be used as a networking opportunity. All of that is a major aspect in getting where you want to be.
I know theres a fashion program at the Art Institute. A few students went there and came to Marymount and said it wasnt that good. They said it was actually really different from the work we do here.

[QUOTE=Make it Work!] I went to LIM for fashion merchandising for 2 semesters then transferred. It'a a great school but its very expensive- about $20,000 a year. Its a very small school and about 95% of the student body is rich white girls from Jersey. There are not many black students so basically all the black kids knew each other. A great thing about the school is that they get internships for you.
I transferred because it's just too expensive considering that my parents are paying out of pocket. ( I don't qualify for financial aid. only loans.) So right now Im at cuny then i'll be transferring to f.i.t.( a popular suny fashion school only about $5000 a year) for my last 2 years.
My advice would be to complete 2 years at a cc then transfer to LIM, or to go to f.i.t. instead.
[/QUOTE OMOGGG r u serious i want to go to that school I think i'll be able to afford it and do u like F.I.T. how is it I applied their too??? Please tell :)
