i wear the kinky straight weave and i like the fact that it looks like its my real hair. however i am in this medical program where students have to examine each others scalp, meaning touch the head and i dont want anyone to feel the tracks and know its fake. i'm not sure what to do. i'm scared they may perceive me differently after knowing its not my real hair. i'm not sure if i should have a white student do it or a black student (fear she may tell everyone my hair is really fake)...any advice?

In your case your secret will be out just because it is part of the program.   I don't think it will matter if you let a white, black , etc examine your scalp but let the person know that you are wearing a weave and would like that to be kept secret.

I think you should just own it. Big smile

And if someone thinks less of you because you wear a weave, that's THEIR personal issue. F them. Fake or not, fabulous is fabulous. If it looks good, what else really matters

I know just the type of girl you're talking about lol. I wouldn't let them get to you. In fact I would tell them it was a weave and give them your stylists business card and tell them what type of hair you use. 'Cause THAT would be true shade, honey. Like, "yeah, it's a weave, and it looks better than your real hair, but let me do you a solid and show you how you can be just as fabulous as I am".

When I wear weave, I wear them really long, like 26" ( I'm tall though so it doesn't look ridiculous). I carry my hair stylists business cards with me and pass them out everytime I catch someone side-eyeing the hair and sweetly say "she can hook your hair up, too". Gets them everytime! LOL

lol I sewn in my own hair and do a good job. it lays very flat, and blends in wonderfully. i also take good care of my leave out. i'm hoping that the girl who feels my hair wont make a big deal and tell everybody its fake. maybe she already suspects its not real and thinks its a good weave. i just love the fact that i keep them wondering. i was thinking a white student would be less inclined to tell anybody

I never understood why it's big deal? I always let people know, well not randomly, but if someone asks, I'll tell them. Or if they say your hair is so long, I'll say they're extensions. It's not a big deal. White girls wear extensions too. It's not embarrassing.

Oh yeah, and one time this white girl in my school was feeling my hair (w/o my permission) and she was like "OMG there are braids under here!!!" lol. But I don't see why a black girl would tell someone, unless she had too. I think the white girl would be more shocked/surprised. A black girl wouldn't be shocked or think it's weird... maybe she's wearing a weave too. But anyway, It does seem suspect to be like "hey, can you not tell everyone I'm telling a weave" so would she have to lie? or would she just be rubbing the scalp where the leave out is, because that would be quite obvious.

My installs always look like my real hair and I still just assume everyone knows it's a weave. I don't know why, but I always just assume people know.
