But here's my thing...Who are you? to tell someone , male or female they "dont deserve respect"?...I'm pretty sure you and your mother have done things ppl dont agree with in your lifetimes, and felt some entitlement to disrespect ya'll...being black alone is one...
You don't truly respect yourself if you look for reason, which has been calculated in your own mind to disrespect others, just because they dont meet your own expectations of how someone should be. I don't care how they "carry themselves"...
This type of entitlement humans walk around with is straight up disgusting...

But to answer your question binky...that's not respect, that's lust.
None of these guys are worried about Kim K's IQ or business acumen.
They're worried with how she moved on her sex tape, her DSL's, her
boobs, etc. It's pure objectification. There's nothing respectful in
their "admiration".

i just feel like just because someone allows you to treat them this way or the other in no way absolves you as the perpetrator. nor does it mean the victim deserves it. i mean unless the person getting treated like shyt really LOVES it...which is rarely ever the case...then no. |
But much of this comes down to how you're raised...both for men and women.
If you're a girl and you see your mother being objectified, disrespected, etc and you never see her defending herself or correcting those who attempt to do this, you'll think this behavior is acceptable.
And the same applies to men. If you don't have someone in your life showing you how a real man is supposed to treat a woman, you're going to think that acting a fool is acceptable.

well if both parties in the relationship are clueless about healthy relationships, then i guess they are both lost yet still equally at fault, imo.
i was moreso referring to people who make a concience effort to take advantage and treat others like crap... in these cases, regardless of whether the other person allows it...the person doing it is more at fault...imo...

^^I agree with your last part. But someone looking to purposely disrespect others usually preys on the weak/damaged person who feels they don't deserve better.
It's still wrong, and effed up, but it points to the idea of "if you know your worth, you won't settle for the scraps a bum like that tries to give you".

this is why i believe there is a generation of folks who don't know what respect actually is.
"get up when you see an older person get on the bus and give her your seat", yes mam, no mam, take your had off when you walk in the house, treat ppl at all levels even homeless with respect. speak show respect. respect your parents no matter what kind of parent they are show them respect. i have a whole reference from my upbrining

ITA binky...it's really shameful.
"Damnnnn shawty got a fat ass" is not a compliment. Yet I see these girls out here smiling and giggling when a guy says that.
Honking your horn at me is not a compliment. I'm not Pavlov's dog, I will not come running to your car if you honk at me.
There's a lot of negative conditioning that's been happening for way too long specifically in the black community. But the art of positive flirting & relating between the sexes is definitely declining in the younger generations. :(

that is how we raise JJ. one time when jj was about 18 mos this 70 year old man walked up to him in chruch and held out his fist (fist bump) jj looked confused then DH told the man we teach him to shake hands so he held out his hand and JJ shook it.
DH sings "shake my hand be my friend; be my friend shake my hand"

There are some ppl I dont like/respect for one reason or another, for that reason I dont interact with those ppl. I dont keep ppl around me I dont enjoy being around. Of the ppl Ive had to work with that I didnt like/respect I was on the tolerant side of indifferent and it worked out fine. Im not one to sit fake smile and make small talk when i dont like you. I hate that sh!t.
