If she says that's how the question comes off to her, I believe her. We're not here to hear the tone of the person who is asking or the whole context surrounding that particular person.
I'm sure there are people who are asking who are being genuine, though.  It's on a case by case basis.

Funny, HD, I've always thought the opposite, that we live in a boastful society where admitting that one has insecurities or flaws is a no-no because it makes people assume that you somehow have low self-esteem. As if a few insecurities in some aspects of life cannot be compatible with confidence in other aspects of life. North America is all about the go-getter mentality and everyone claims to be one even when they aren't. If anything, I think we live in an arrogant society.

Not when " i'm fat, i;m this I'm that.  There's pressure to do well inspite of your short comings.  Look at that beauty dove campaign etc.  Celebs with too much confidance get torn down everyday

If this is the case, (mind you, I don't know the OP) then maybe, it could also be the "confidence" that shares a fine line with arrogance. For those who know her, does she come off as arrogant?

good question, so ppl could be trying to be slick with their comments..  Just in my experience ppl always find my confidance great,  even though I had to teach it to myself

OK, I get what you are saying about body image. People do have plenty of low self esteem in that regard. But I don't see society's stance as pressure to do well. I see it as pressure to attain some unattainable ideal.

based on her face alone, she appears thin, pretty, and exotic. she aight in this world.  (not to diminish anyone else's struggle, but yea)

i would have to hear how the question was asked (tone) to think it would be offensive. Although...I've seen Gabby S get asked where she gets her confidence; I've never seen Beyonce where she gets hers. Hmm....

I have been asked that question before.

I always say the same thing ... 'my upbringing'. It does not matter how you look - it's all about family.  If they don't make you feel like you are 'somebody' .. it's hard to ever believe that you ARE somebody.

Looking too deep into it, IMO. The question is just that. "Where do you get your confidence?" I'm sure that some people are asking the question with underlying meaning but I'm sure most genuinely want to know what she does to boost her confidence.

eta: typo
I'm confused by this POV. I don't know the lady in OP, but is she supposed to be ashamed of something?Confused
Is she a prostitute? Criminal? Murderer? Heaux? extra slow?
Is self-confidence abnormal?Confused
Or are people normally low in self-confidence that they genuinely want to know how/why SHE is so confident (and then maybe help themselves in that manner)?

IDK who the lady is either. You'd be surprised how many people have low self esteem though which is why I say some people probably genuinely want to know what she does to give herself confidence...

ETA: I don't get where you got that I was saying she was supposed to be ashamed of something just from me saying some people probably just genuinely want to know how she has high self esteem.
