How do you guys feel about Lee Daniels and Steve McQueen? Geek

I just got Paperboy on DVD and I plan on watching it this weekend...the only other film of his i've seen is Precious.  He also produced Monster's Ball so i expect some interesting things from Paperboy.

I don't know his work well enough. I've seen Precious and Monster's Ball, though. He has talent.

It's one of my least favorite. I found it a bit too stereotypical. Enjoyed Sam Jackson's story line, though

I believe I've only seen Malcolm X and Crooklyn. So I'll go with Crooklyn.

Looking for a link for "When the Leeves Broke" right now. Heard it's one of his best...

Haven't seen any of this documentaries. And I thought I was a fan... I need to rectify this. I've followed this man from the very beginning. Went to see She's gotta have it in some seedy ass theater that usually shows PICS flicks, with a nasty old white man masturbating two rows before me *shudders*. I saw him speak twice when he came to town and it was packed with film students and others. People just don't understand the influence of Do the Right thing on filmmaking. The way he moved his camera, the way he threaded that story. It was groundbreaking and still taught today

Just recently saw Red Hook Summer and hated it.

Girl that Red Hook Summer was confusing as hell! LOL The grandfather turn out to be a child molester? wtf

I honestly thought it was some sort of student film.

The story didn't make sense. The mom says her son has to stay with grandpa because she's going on a trip. But then she's skyping the son from home.

And you find out later that grandpa gave his money (the money he got to move out of the town after he molested the boy) to his daughter and that's how she bought her house. So she knew he was a child molester but sent her son there anyway (and from the flashbacks he was definitely grandpa's "type").

And then the gangster dude whose mom used to be a church member when she was alive. It felt like the only point of having him in the movie was so that he could stomp out the pastor once they found out he was a molester.

And Spike made it a point to say that two of the older lady characters in the movie had kids who died from AIDS.

There were just so many things going on with the movie and the whole time I was just like, is there a point to putting these things in the story? I kept thinking he was going to make some kind of comment on the issues...but then he just didn't. Plus the molestation scene made me sick.
