for Foxx and Kerry Washington.

(I didn't see this topic discussed so sorry if repost)

I decided to check the movie's rating on rotten tomatoes. It has 50 positive reviews and only 3 negative (94% fresh rating). The consensus is Bold, bloody, and stylistically daring, Django Unchained is another incendiary masterpiece from Quentin Tarantino.

It hasn't even been released yet for the masses but it's already getting accolades and award nominations from all over.

Yet the only award nominations for both Kerry Washington Foxx is from the NAACP Awards (Foxx picked up a best lead nomination for the St. Louis Film Critics and L.A. film critics).

Here are some quotes from them about being snubbed.

Foxx

“I think she should be nominated. Because sometimes you look at people that do get nominated and you go [makes confused face]… but I tell people, Kerry Washington has yet begun to fight."

“A lot of times we’re not nominated when we do honorable work. Because with the slave she [Washington] plays there is dignity in everything she played,” Foxx  said.  “It wasn’t subservient; she wasn’t giving up to anything. So a lot of times they do overlook that, they may not want to reward that.”

Washington

“I’ve never had shame in playing somebody who is a slave or a prostitute, or anybody who may be looked down upon in society,” Washington said. “Because I think we all deserve to have our stories told no matter who we are. And if I’m proud of playing a woman who is handling a crises, I’m gonna be proud of playing a woman who is a maid.”

_______

Now granted, Waltz and Leo are amazing actors, Tarintino is a great filmmaker/storyteller, and I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know which nominations are justified. I just thought it was pretty interesting.

Thoughts?

I wonder who the oscars are going to nominate. Will Smith might have saw this coming from a mile away.

it is a common theme if we seek validation from the white system. they want to see us debased and humiliated.  and yet, black awards are ignored [i mean some do suck]. i just read an article about why do the NAACP awards exist. yet do people question the Latin Grammys?

denzel has played many a fine and upstanding negro but he wins for playing a corrupt cop? that was nowhere near his best performance.

white folks don't take jaime serious an actor imho.

on another forum i was going back n forth with a white boy who said jaime spoils the movie because he's an overrated actor. they brought up his nomination for "Collateral" and said he didn't deserve it.
