Oh and I didn't know that Diana King was of indian descent. I have an old cassette that made its way into my collection (can't remember who gave it to me)

One more tidbit, Irish Moss is a popular (yet disgusting Dead) drink in Jamaica, and it was introduced to the island by the Irish slaves. It's made from some kind of seaweed, but it's white, sweet, and clammy. I hate it, but it is very popular. Dem seh it mek man wood stan up LOL.

From what I remember we learned in school, it wasn't illegal to kill an Irish slave because they were not considered 'property' like the African slaves were. My dad's side of the the family has very Irish-looking folk, complete with the fair skin, red hair and freckles.

Just looked at it. The end kinda made me chuckle when the lady is talking about the hardships, coming from so far away, different language, different food, different skin colour... Isn't that the immigrant story worldwide, LOL.

Indeed, even more-so when you're ripped from your home and forced to live elsewhere. Oh, wait...LOL.

that's interesting to know the origin, I thought irish moss was mostly flaxseed and isinglass to my knowledge ... I know there is a red seaweed that CAN be used but I don't recall many people using it, if any

white, sweet and clammy!Cry

the difference in value between irish slaves and african slaves ... was that african slaves were bought and transported over long distances (high cost) vs irish slaves that were basically free (acquired in exchange for debt or political pillaging) and transported for little cost on the return trips (leave the caribbean with all its resources and returned with irish slaves)

My niece and nephew are half white.

My grandma looks half white. She said her daddy came off a banana boat.

Other ethnicities/nationalities within my (BIG) family:

West African
Arab
Thai
Puerto Rican
Native American

In addition to knowing the diversity of your family, it is also vital to know your ancestral lineage, especially if you are AA/Black.
