Topic: Different opinions on how far back to cut the lace Posted: Feb 01 2013 at 9:40am |
|
I've been watching lots of YT videos on cutting the lace and it seems that I'm seeing a few different opinions on how far back to cut it. Some videos are showing and saying to cut right butt up against the first knots and some are showing about 1/8 inches or so. Looking for opinions and reasons for cutting lace at different spots. I'd assume you wouldn't want any lace at all, therefor to cut as close to the knots as possible. Is this not the case?

Whatever works for you! I leave no lace at the front but, I leave a small amount at the nape so I position the nape correctly.

I do this as well. Looks more natural in the front that way imho.

yes, please cut the lace all the way back. When I first started wearing lace wigs, I left about 1/2" of lace on my forehead and glued the wig down because I looked at a Ms. Lola video who said to do so. I think back at how ridiculous that must have looked and just shake my head at myself.

Yes, do cut the lace all the way back in the front .. or else when people look at your face .. they will see it. Ms Lola means well .. but... If you want to leave a bit out in the back at the nape for easibility - fine because the hair will cover the lace so .. no one can see it.

Oh Ms. Lola lol... Yes I cut all the way to the knots. I don't use glues or tapes, just the Tootsie method, so having this extra edge of lace is unnecessary. As long as you're sealing the knots and the edge of the lace you shouldn't have an issue. Leaving lace is something that's done to prevent "losing hair" from fraying.

By the way, pinking shears are a great way to avoid that straight edge look when cutting the lace.

I cut a little less than 1/8. I find that leaving that makes mine more realistic.
