She was far from surprised. We talk about that type of stuff all of the time.  She's not the type of person who's oblivious to the fact that racism still exists. She has experienced some level of racism before but never to that extent.  You're kind of caught off guard when you're put in a situation that extreme out of the blue.  That whole situation was extreme and unnecessary.
