Django was use to violence from Americans and Schultz was not (foreigner). Sidekick implies of like mind. They were not.

Sort of off topic but not really.
Dick Gregory talked about Foxx and his wife riding off into the sunset at the end of the movie. All I could think about after I saw that was how screwed they were gonna be when the klan go to them.
