False!

Even QT himself said he was okay with Django being a sidekick lol

Funny you brought up the use of the "n-word" being used in this movie when I wasn't even referring to Django in particular (because the use of that word in that movie did not bother me)

I was referring to his non-race related films, actually

Btw... how do you guys manage to defend Django Unchained by using both arguments that it wasn't "a documentary" and it was "reality" at the same time? Confused

Gymnastics I say

Because you asked if we are better off...if thats the case to make then why not make that case for every movie with the use of blk ppl. Him hiring black actors dont make black ppl as a whole better off.  It may make those black actors better off but black ppl as a whole? The option of weather or not u feel he uses the N word excessive and unncessarily in his movies is a matter of opinion.

Jamie foxx was not a side kick in the flick he was much more than that. But what i do think is interesting is that blk ppl are angry at the amount of times the n-word was said in a movie that depicting slavery and are offended.....If white ppl where up and arms about it we would be saying they are trying to soften the harsh reality of what slavery was.  Now many blacks are doing that for them in a backwards kind of way.....

There were many uncomfortable scenes in the flick but slavery was just that... it was cringe worthy and disgusting. QT didnt invite this treatment... it was a reality. I can understand passing on a movie and not wanting to support it in any way but you cant your criticize does lose weight when you havent watched it and formed ur own opinion.

Maybe because one thing is the setting (set pieces, fashion, language) and the other is the plot.

So mandingo fights were reality? Where are the sources for this?

i think the flick was set in a certain time period and obviously needed to be set in a certain historical context.

but everything else, was probably up for grabs.

I think the Mandingo fighting was to show the depravity of the slave owners.

Also Mandingo fighting was used in the novel Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

Watching the film Django wasnt a sidekick... he may have been  presented as such so that he could be given the privileges he got but na he wasnt the Robin to Batman sidekick by any means imo

I don't get what you are missing.

Setting. The place and time period a story takes place in.

Plot. What happens in the setting.

Django Unchained. Fictional story (plot) inside a real setting.

Sort of like Miracle at St. Anna featuring fictional plot-points inside of a real setting (WW2).
