My suggestion would to look for products that explicitly says that it can detangle hair and is loaded with silicones.  Products like conditioners and leave in treatments or moisturizers.  Products that have worked for me in the past: Africa's Best Kids Organics moisturizer, the custard colored one that comes in a bottle and it is really cheap, ORS HAIRepair Banana conditioner, Creme of Nature Argan 7 in 1 treatment (comes in a red bottle), Giovanni Direct Leave in.  Then after you have washed and rinsed her hair, spray on a detangler section her hair into for parts, and in one section with a wide tooth comb from the ends and slowly work your way up and repeat for each section.

A warning--don't get the Shea Moisture detangler cream/gel in the with the orange label. It sucks for type 4 hair. You've been warned.

You should detangle her hair while wet with conditioner. After u wash that out, apply a good moisturizing product. Use cocoa curl(it's in a brown container) and mix it with curls unleashed(not the curl boosting jelly but the one in the peach & white container) to moisturize. Use a wide tooth comb or a denmanbrush for detangling on her hair(while wet only). The Shea moisture curling smoothing is also a good product. Try to steer clear of using shampoo too often and especially the ones containing sulfate.

i really dont like giving suggestions for products because i know everything isnt going to work for everybody but this product worked when my hair was matted and tried its best to drop, loc and rollLOL

i purchased for like less than 2 bucks because i had coupons or otherwise i would have never tried but im glad i did.  its intended purpose is suppose to be for split ends but thats b.s. but it does make the best detangling conditioner ive ever used.

if the hair is really matted let it sit on the hair with a conditioning cap to let it warm up a bit and then detangle with a wide tooth comb.  this conditioner should be washed out afterward.  i wouldnt recommend it as a leave in. gl

Mane 'n' tail deep moisturizing conditioner and aubrey organics honey suckle rose together can detangle any matted hair. I finger detangle dreaded box-braids with that combo and its like dream.

I would apply Kinky Curly Knot today to wet hair, let it sit for a few minutes, then detangle with the fingers.

TBH, I would stay away from silicones, they'll mask the problem at first but over time will dry out the hair and make the problem worse.
