I always detangle before relaxing. Otherwise I will be battling knots and matted hair while relaxing. I would spend more time on that than actually relaxing and possibly overprocess certain parts of my hair . The night before when I'm prepping my hair by basing my scalp and coating my relaxed hair with conditioner I gently detangle from tip to roots. It takes a while because I'm making sure to be very gentle so as not to cause burning the next day.

I would say gently detangle the hair, try not too pull the hair too much... Section your hair, and start from the ends to root.

Personally i find if my NG is out of control, even after detangling it doesn't cause my scalp any problems as its sooooo thick and course!!

By not detangling at all, it can cause my knots and problems.... you wouldn't washed knotted / matted hair, would you??
