I'd be terrified if I was blind and deaf. You're basically trusting your life with other people.

It is a gift according to my religious beliefs but everyone has to make their own choices on how they want to live.

but what's funny is that in the arguments.....the majority of the people are not going thru whatever pain or situation that these folks are going thru.  They are usually healthy and living a good life tellin' other people that the sh*t ain't that bad.

I have a cousin.....she's in a wheelchair and has a substance abuse prollem.  She was a wild child.  When she was about 13 she ditched us (her sisters and myself) at the movies to go hang out with drug dealers and the like.  That same night there was a robbery at the drug house she was at and errybody was shot execution style.  She was the only survivor. I'll never forget getting that call at 2 in the morning.  I think that as time went on...as her sisters went on about our lives...she became depressed over her situation.  I think that she started with drugs as a means of escape. I think she thinks to herself if she had only stayed with us that one day ...there was a chance that her life could have been so different.  I have no idea what it means to be paralyzed but I can empathize.   I can't tell her that what she's going thru is not that bad....I would never tell her that.  I can't imagine how I would feel or how I would deal if I were in her situation.  But i'd want the option to not have to live with it if I did not want to.

It ain't about you sweetie....they have their lives and you have yours.

I think people of sound mind should be able to determine their fate.

Well, I live in The Netherlands now and yes, people have the right to ask to have their lives ended.

Everyone carries their own pain so I think it's cruel to force your beliefs on someone else and force them to live .. while you have a normal life and they have a miserable crippled life.

Sorry for your cousin - that's a terrible story indeed.

People will end their lives if they want to, and they have the physical ability to do so.

Legislation only means that people won't have to resort to painful, unreliable, and secret ways of doing so. (see: abortion).

Life is a gift. Gifts, once given, are the recipients' to use as they see fit. Even if that means returning it.

How can a person suffering from dementia make a about whether or not to end one's own life, if one its demented? Did the definition of dementia change to include the required to make such a drastic and permanent decision????? And how can a child possibly be entrusted with a decision like that?
