On the contrary, I think having too much pride has inhibited us from moving forward. I don't know where that assessment came from but okay.
 
It comes from so many haitian americans trying to hide that they're haitian. I guess it pisses me off because I see it so often.
Where do you live? How often do you visit NY? Haitians in NY are proud to be Haitian. Maybe it's in your area but it definitely isn't in mine.
 
All the *&%^$#@Ein time. Practically the entire haitian side of my family is there. And my brother left Canada to live in the states some twenty years ago

My parents have a rusty machete.  They used to clear some brush in our backyard or threaten us. SMH.

Welp Jolie, what can I tell you, there are people who are embarrassed of their heritage from all walks of life. Haitians from that are not exempt. You will always meet the few who don't want to be. I however am surrounded by Haitians who love, embrace, and represent their ethnicity whenever they are given the chance to do so. I grew up around nothing but PROUD Haitians. Maybe it's time you switch your circle and help your family find their pride.
