The eccentric dancer claims she was tossed from the African Arts Festival because of the color of her skin. The event’s organizers say she was disrupting a performance.KMOVThe eccentric dancer claims she was tossed from the African Arts Festival because of the color of her skin. The event’s organizers say she was disrupting a performance.

A transgender woman dancing up a storm at a St. Louis African Arts Festival claims she was targeted and booted because she is white — but event organizers say she was disrupting the performance.

Susan Stone claims a video recording of the confrontation in Forest Park catches an event staffer racially discriminating against her as she danced to the tunes Sunday.

“He takes me and tells me 'you can't be doing this here this is an African American event you can't be at this event you're not black,'” Stone told KMOV-TV. “It’s supposed to be about sharing African culture with everybody. How can you do that if you run somebody out?”

The recording that Stone, a well-known, tutu-clad figure who shows up to dance at St. Louis-area events, takes of the confrontation catches an alleged organizer making disparaging remarks about her clothing and another man asking her to sit down and to stop blocking other patron’s view of the show. The organizer also accuses her of doing costume changes and pretending to be a member of the group performing

“This character does not go along with what this festival represents,” the man, who is black, says. “This is the African Arts Festival, this is not the Ballerina Arts Festival. This is not the European Arts Festival. This is not the Caucasian Arts Festival.”

A fed-up Stone said she was targeted because she was white.

“It kind of shocked me because I’ve been discriminated against for many things — gender and all kinds of things — but never my color,” the eccentric, transgender dancer told the news station. “I feel angry because they're missing out on the beauty of everything. We're all supposed to get along together that's what God says.”

One organizer offered an apology, telling KMOV that the response was unacceptable “because we want everyone to showcase their talents and their abilities.”

Stone’s secretive video doesn’t absolve her of any blame in the fracas; at one point she is recorded saying, “What I’m going to do to the African American people, I’m going to make you people look bad.”

She also accuses the men of threatening to kick her out, when in fact, they only ask her to sit down, according to the recording posted on her YouTube channel under the name “danceoflifedancer”.
