yes it can be done with kinky twists, but not micros;the braid has to be a little bigger to make it work like pencil size;If you are using human hair, then it can be loose on the ends.

So I've been waiting to update on whether or not it works well.  So I got kinky twists and followed the technique (washing, deep conditioning, etc)  I even full head baggied some days and moisturized daily.

I took my twists out and my hair was so soft and the only product buildup was around my edges (which is to be expected). My hair is thicker and so much healthier.  It's so thick that although it's only shoulder length (I cut off three inches before the twists), someone asked today if it was a wig!

Go crown and glory technique! Thumbs%20Up

Okay so I got the micros before I read this because I always jump the gun..lol...but I would say that they are for the most part pencil size but the braider who doesn't listen didn't braid all of my hair in the braid (my ends are out) does this make a difference?

Is your natural hair ends out? or just the braids?

If the braider leaves your ends out it sort of defeats the purpose of protective styling the ends are still exposed to possible damage. If your own hair is braided including the ends but the mircos are loose towards the end then that's fine.

I hope I'm making sense hereLOL.

I ONLY get micro braids and have been doing the crown and glory technique for 2 years. My hair has never been healthier.

It can be done with micros or any other braiding style for that matter. Even tree braids.

I am also transitioning and i use the Crown And Glory method. The braids keep my hair protected but its best to keep them about the size of a pecil. If you are transitioning the washing regamin is great it keeps the two textures from getting tangled and minamizes breakage.
