Since you mentioned having a lot of hair.
Ingredients make a major difference on how much of a product you will need too.
Because before I switched shampoo and conditioners, I found out I could add apple cider vinegar to diminish the drying effects of some ingredients and that already made a difference in the amount of product I needed to moisturize my hair. So then it really started to sink in that the ingredients of mainstream(regular drugstore) shampoo and conditioners were drying out my hair even more than I realized.
I always had to be very heavy handed on product to moisturize my hair and now two full squirts of conditioner is enough to saturate my hair. So now I can use gel and lotion as styling products instead of moisturizers.
So finding ingredients that will benefit your hair will make changes in so many ways.
You might still have to be heavy handed depending on the amount of hair you have and the way it responds to moisture, but it won't be as heavy handed as washing with drying ingredients.
