I met a few ppl off Craigslist pertaining to real estate deals. I take a friend. Only converse outside the house when I'm alone. If, we are in the house so I can take pix the door must stay open. I only do this during the day.
Just be safe and use common sense.

Never go to anyone's house. Never let them come to your home. Don't get in their car. I always say we will meet at [public place], and if they can't do that particular place, I pick the next public area. If they can't do it, they are out of luck and won't sell nothin to me.
A couple years ago a girl was told the item for sale was in their home, so she took a ride with them (she was a freshman that lived on campus with no car and wasn't form the area). They took her to the next town over, about a 30 mins drive, and she was raped and abandoned. You have to use common sense with these types of things, or don't bother at all.

Take cash--the exact amount of the item.
Regardless of who the hell you take with you, don't go to anyone's house.
Meet in the daytime if you can. If you have to meet at night, meet in a well-lit, crowded location--something like a wal-mart parking lot should suffice. |

i've been to ppl's homes on CL by myself, like when i was looking for a place and people wanted to sublease...i just always made sure to send someone an email with where i would be going.
if I am buying a specific thing, i usually do meet somewhere random like starbucks. i remember i asked my mom to pick up a whole bunch of books for me once bc the person lived near her. they just met at safeway.
