I want to pick up some weights off craiglist they are $40 and they are great starter weights. Do I take cash to go get the weights? Do I send my guy friends to get them I am nervous. Has anyone bought from craigslist before? I just want some starter weights to use at home.

I agree with all of the above. Cash and meet in public. Bring a burly friend if you have one and are worried about something popping off...

I use to buy and sell off of Craigslist all the time with no problems. Anyway, take cash and meet in a public place if you are scared. Never go to anyone's home unless you take someone with you! Just read everyone else responses...Pretty much the same

I buy and sell sometimes up there, and used it a lot as a networking tool when I babysat in high school. - Never meet someone in your or their personal space. I always meet at a well known Wawa that is a decent amount of time from my home. Never get into a stranger's car, or into their home. If they cannot meet you in a public space, forget the whole thing.
- Don't meet someone alone. I always bring my bf or my friend with me. It's my personal preference. You won't really need to do this if you meet in a very public area, but you never know.
- Bring cash. It's a quick transaction for goods, not a store; no way to really process checks or cards. NEVER do paypal - ppl use paypal on cl as a SCAM. Craigslist is NOT the place for paypal transactions.
- I use a separate business email from my personal email. Personal preference. Sometimes if a person emails you or you them, your profile info will pop up. These ppl do not need to know my personal info, we're just buying/selling goods. I honestly prefer texting/calling when dealing with craigslist.
I like cl sometimes, it's a good tool especially when you are looking for certain items or want to get rid of things that don't necessarily need to be posted on ebay (item too heavy to ship, fees, etc). But you have to be careful and assertive and alert.

Do you have a Walmart near you? I bought my starter weights for $20 -- they included two bars, 4 weight clips, four 10 lb weights and four 5 lb weights.
If you're nervous about buying off of Craigslist, that might be an option
