did it occur to uncle that he may have also been crying b/c the man responsible for teaching him how to be a man was gone? he's now expected to be the man of the house with little training...he lost his dad and should grieve for however long it takes...losing your parent is not something you just get over. he's still a baby.

I never cry at first. Normally it's a looooong time after when their absence is truly recognized. It helps me deal, but my coping doesn't begin until it really hits me.

when my sis died, we were concerned because my nephew didn't cry; and he was there with her when she died. We thought he would be a basket case. He was only 8. His dad said 'oh that's just how men are.' He's from the school that men/boys don't cry too. I hate that. |
thats why we cant get nowhere as a ppl!! False sense of macho messing with their egos fuccin up the right decisions & natural order of things. manhood does not override humankind, empathy, or innate functions

I hate that. There is nothing weak about crying. It's healthy and it's a part of life. I think holding in your grief makes you weak because you're afraid to show it.

in that particular case, the uncle was wrong. that boy lost his father, period. if he can't cry at the damn funeral, when can he cry??
I dislike when ppl try to tell young boys that they are now men at such a young age...he is still a child and should still be able to act like one.
I also dislike it b/c it encourages boys to suppress certain emotions, and that grief/sadness is not to be expressed. that is extremely unhealthy.
everyone grieves in their own way. who is he, or any of us, to tell each other the "proper" way to grieve someone? there isn't a right way, or a timeframe one should follow. he will probably grieve his father, in some sense. for the rest of his life, and that is more than ok.

This is exactly why there are so many men out they that have anger issues an misplaced anger-they simply have not dealt with the hurt in the past and told to suck it up---bull sh*t humans hurt man or woman.

The boy's grandmother chastised his uncle and told the child to keep crying if he needed to.
