I would suggest giving her some Flax Seed oil daily. This was recommended by a naturalpath and it has helped me alot. You can get flaxseed oil in either gelcaps or liquid found at a healthfood store, but I'm starting to notice it in more places.

Try using Neutrogenia T-Gel or T-Sal shampoo.  It's kinda of pricey but it works for me.

Had the exact same problem w/the flaking and patches. Went to a derm and found out it was eczema. My derm had me go the the local drugstore and snatch up a bottle of Pentrax Tar Shampoo...I put it on my scalp and let it sit for about an hour then wash it.  It works and no more patches or annoying itchy scalp.  Only been using a lil' over a month. Good luck..

I heard flaxseed is really good for dry skin and I hate the taste so I always forget, but thanks for reminding me Chanibelle.

My dermatologist has recommended DHS shampoo which is great, but she also said Head and Shoulders has just about the same ingredients so I buy that because it's cheaper. I concentrate on putting it on my scalp and I make sure I have a hot oil or just oil treatment on my hair before I use it because it's very dry. I try not to lather up to much.  I have one of those yellow plastic round scalp scratchers that I use to wash the scalp with. I also follow up with jojoba oil on the scalp and sometimes Scalpicin. I can go for about a week and a half without washing if I do all of these things.

Flaxseed oil and tar based products are very good.  I also heard that Black Soap is very good for a lot of skin ailments, you just have to be careful in finding a pure product.

Good luck.
