Topic: Conscious Hip Hop/Rap and the use of the n-word Posted: Dec 26 2012 at 11:56am |

RT could probably make a better OP, but oh well
how do you feel about the use of the n-word in conscious hip hop?
do you expect to hear it less when you listen to artists that fall into this category?
does it bother you?

Well I guess it depends on how one would define "conscious hip-hop".

I hate it. Every line of a song has to have the n word. Also, I need certain rappers to stop rhyming niqqa with niqqa

Lupe has this song that goes
White people...you can't say nicca. sorry gotta take it back... Black people...where's my niccas, cuz God made us better than that...
i think it's ass backwards.
But I don't expect to hear it less, I expect to hear it in a different context

It's "we're not nigguhs, cause God made us better than that." Smh.
ETA: I don't care about the usage of the word.

Lupe still uses ni g ga all the time though, just to refer to other black people....nothing profound

I'm not the best judge of this considering "I don't like" remix was one of my favorite rap songs of the past year but, yeah...I don't mind the use of the N word by conscious rappers...it can be a tool or a crutch depending on the amt of usage. I don't expect the word to be going anywhere.
