Uppity, would you feel the same way if she joined a multi-cultural sorority?
| No. Just something about being the pet or token black person in a group of Whites that makes me itch. I feel like all the black people I know who are the only black person in their group of White friends suppress their "blackness" to make them feel comfortable around them. Its just an awkward dynamic IMO. Makes me uncomfortable...

- she could have heard rumors about pledging black sororities and gotten scared. - for the white sororities...there really is no criteria, their intake is all at the same time during rush week. If you don't get into one...you just go into another. as long as your application meets the minimums...and you look the part for their org...you're in. (if her roommates are white....she might have went along just to fit in with girls on her floor.
- however, i'm surprised by the fact that she has older relatives that didn't expose her to black greek life and the benefits of it when you attend a PWI. |
She's 1st generation American. West African.

Based on what I have seen in these topics from WSHH and the booty dancing....I would never turn up for a black card. Keep my black card revoked.

what's the confusion?

ETA: It seems like the confused party is the OP and not the black kids who chose to join white sororities.

Well now that makes it a bit more clearer. IMO IJS sounds like she wants nothing to do with African Americans and our culture and believes she has more in common with haoles and their culture?

I feel like you can learn a lot of bad habits from other Black folks honestly if you haven't been around them all of your life.
Like I couldn't stand my HS being around on whites and a few mexicans, the black friends I did have were raised like me and we all have good values.
Now that we meet the other black people were just like we see why our parents didn't want us around them, it was fun at first, but it's just not whats best...
I find that at my University it is really harder to make friends with the black community especially the girls, being that I'm coming in a Junior and they've all been there since their Freshman year.
I feel like the other minority groups are much more welcoming and inviting, though I haven't joined any.
Most of the friends I have made already are NOT black. The one I do know she is always trying to copy my work and never comes to class...
Question: can women with children join a Sorority? I feel the answer is no? |
if this isn't the craziest ish ive ever seen.
you just shaded the fck out of black people.
so you didn't become a young, ratchet baby mama until you started being around other blacks? where were your "higher than other blacks" standards and values when you made that choice?

Hmmm, good point. Even at my little school all the 1st gen/2nd gen African students hung out together. They let us AA's join in as well.
