Maybe I spoke too soon (response to a post Nmordi was on) about how much I like the FLW I just got from Enoya.. I can't seem to lighten it Cry  It is a CVR, I spec'ed natural color, NO color processing.  However, I strand tested twice with the professional hilift color I ALWAYS use, and it ain't really happening.  It IS lifting some, just a lot less than I'm used to.  I'm only using 30 vol and I could go up to 40.. I'd try that before I'd try bleach (I hate bleaching; I always feel it fries the hair).   My question to the experienced is, if it were fabric color dyed, would it still lift 'some' like I am seeing, or not at all?  What is the most sure way to tell if a unit has been fabric colored?  TIA!

I'd like to know the answer to this too.  I do know that Chinese hair is typically harder to lift, although I have worked with supposedly virgin hair that was surprisingly easy to lift, which makes me suspect that it wasn't truly untouched virgin.

I recently bought a CVR unit and the knots would not lift AT ALL. I know for a fact the vendor doesn't use clothes dye. After doing a little research, I've come to the conclusion that Chinese hair is just stubborn it doesn't lighten easily. You may have to use bleach

Henna,  I would snip a bit from the unit and use very hot, almost boiling water with rit color remover in it, and soak the hair in it.  The color will run into the water.  Sometimes bleach (clorox) and hot water will also lift the color out of the hair, and cause the water to become dark.

I am convinced the unit is virgin only if I can see a lot of gray hair in the unit.  Unfortunately, I think 90% of th virgin hair is mixed with something lately. I have noticed the density of virgin units is decreasing too.  Perhaps in an attempt to save hair for more units and profit.

Bekah, you are right, Chinese hair is stubborn, and I use bleach to lift the color, but it seems that some of the knots still won't lift, which is why I am convinced of the mix of more filler hair.

I also think that some products do better with heat to get the color to lift.

PeacfulOne, that is a great idea; I am going to cut a long bang in the front, anyway.  Be good to be SURE what I am dealing with, here.

I'm just going to have to up and bleach her, I guess... (sigh)  I NEED this unit yesterday, too.   I've never been happy with bleaching with powder lightener, so I guess I have to sink some money into some high end cream lightener.. I can't afford a failure with this unit!  Cry

I will say, Enoya did a GREAT job on the density, in terms of following my directions, and did not skimp on me like so many vendors are doing lately.  If the hair is good, they just got a new return customer.. we shall see how she survives the bleach process.

Hey girl, you know that kalidscope colors works well and fast with 30/40 developer.  But you are lifting the color on the entire unit right?
