Hi everyone I'm assuming there are a lot of young members here and I thought it would be beneficial to have a thread devoted to anything college related including loans, books, life ect.

Good idea!
Well, I have been in college a long time ago. Did one year.
I am back to college, started this Spring. I am in a community college, so the $46 per unit in CA isn't breaking the bank. I have forgotten what feels like to have homework, presentation, quizzes, etc until now!
All but one of my books are rented. The only downside is that most of the people in my classes are younger than me so I do not have anyone to talk to and have a mentally stimulating convo.

Does anyone have any advice on loans? I'm actually a senior in high school with a few options of schools to attend in the fall. However I'm freaking out about leaving school with a lot of debt!

There are some grants that you don't have to pay back.
My brother is in a community college and he receives about $3k per semester. He doesn't have to pay that back.

Well if i could go back I would probably chosen the school that gave me good scholarship than going to a higher ranked college, but anyways grants are great....work study jobs...if you have to take out a loan choose one where the interest doesn't start until after you graduate.

I'm looking at grad schools now and I'm pretty set on the one I absolutely want to attend but I'm not sure they will take me. Life sucks. Good thing I've got a year to get it together before I apply.

@Carmensworld It's all about what makes you special/what they want to hear. What do you think you have that few other people can bring to the community? A firm understanding of Social Justice that you'd like to share?  A knack for leading a choir, organization, community service project?  What skills have you aquired outside of the classroom that taught how to deal with people in an innovative way?

All you need is one of these as a topic for your essay. I'm sure you've done something awesome.

So i have to write on the essay?I thought it was short answer because the question is on the app and they have a little box underneath for the answer.

I had to write so many essays. Sorry I didn't address that portion of your question. I can't tell you what you can give the school but if you answer the questions I previously proposed you should find something you've done to hare with them.

Few questions..
Will you still be qualified for financial aid if you drop any classes?
Do you have to reimburse them back for those classes that were dropped?
TIA.
