All hail Oscar Micheaux, the father of African-American filmmaking.
He is regarded as the first major AA filmmaker and the most prominent for his "race" films...I took a course on early silent cinema and we touched on him briefly. I would love to see his films though. He produced/directed many silent films and "talkies" too during the emergence of sound in cinema.

Carmen Miranda! <3 My favourite "Latin" actress ever. Hollywood made her put on a thick accent to make her come across as more "exotic" to dumb (white) audiences. I love her camp-ness, it's like she knows she's playing a persona and just goes along with it
kinda like Sofia Vergara

Anna May Wong- famous Chinese-American actress.
She complained about the stereotypical roles of either the vicious "Dragon Lady" or the submissive Asian "Butterfly" that she had to play. I've found that stereotyping is something the vast majority of POC had to deal with in Hollywood, an industry which was inherently racist
...remember there was still anti-miscegenation laws around at this point too hence the "all-black" musicals (ETA: which is why I disagree when people say those films were "progressive" for their time, 'lets stick a bunch of negros in a film to come across as liberal when in fact, they're not allowed to have equal footing with white actors' is more like it )and use of black/red/yellow face in "interracial" storylines
