Is there anything inherently wrong with giving 10% of your income to your church while holding your children completely responsible for paying their college and/or graduate school tution?  I know quite a few families in this predicament, and I've always wondered how parents reconcile the two.

I've always felt some kind of way about that 10% thing anyway. If I had to choose between tithing 10% and paying for my child to go to school I'd choose the latter.

Isn't it 10% after paying bills?

Well it depends on the Christian.  I've had people tell me they give 10% of the bat because paying 10% of what's left shows lack of faith in God.  In other words, you don't believe that God can provide what you need, so you give him your leftovers.

I don't know but I know at my church they say 10% of what you earn period. IMO you shouldn't try to tell somebody how much they should tithe in church anyway.

My church does $20 every Sunday, but as long as there is a record that you've given SOMETHING to contribute to the church, you'll remain in good standing as far as church matters are concerned.
