I am 24 and was not raised in the church. My parents taught me about Jesus and God and Christianity. We had Bibles and we knew about the Word, but granted not a lot. My friend started going in while we were in high school and she invited me. I looove my church. I NEVER imagined my life going to church every Sunday (3-4x a week really) and actually being sad when I miss. What drew me:
-We have a pretty diverse church. It is mainly black, but the ages are diverse. I think people would consider it a 'young' church though. The youth's ministry is so great, it was definitely a major draw for me
-Bible preaching. Our pastors and ministers preach from the Bible! We pray in Jesus' name. We believe in the Holy Spirit. Unapologetic gospel.
-Pastors who are living right. Of course no one is perfect, but for the most part, the leadership practice what they preach. If they get into some major mess, then they are sat down. It's not that I'm judgemental, but it would be a little hard to hear from someone who's life is riddled with purposeful sin.
-My head pastor is hilarious, down to Earth, and he does not do that thing where some pastors seem like they can't breathe. I do not like that, but I know some people who wish he did. I doubt I would have been going very long if he preached like that.
-My church gives back to the community, and to its congregation.
So many reasons why I loves my church! Stay before the Lord and ask Him where He wants you. Try not to worry so much about the people and their flaws. If God has called you there, there's a reason. :D
