I have no problem with them since I know some parents have reasons beyond "being too lazy to watch their kids."

I have one that goes around his arm and my wrist. He did was able to unlock the stroller locks at 2 years old and screamed when I tried to stuff him back in. He wanted to walk (sooo slow). So I used it until he learned how to just pull the Velcro. So now I hold his hand which he isn't too crazy about. But we have to cross busy streets that have cars, bikes and mopeds.  He was almost ran over by a bike if I hadn't been holding his hand in the summer. Two weeks ago I was almost hit by a car. There was less than an inch between me and the car. Asshole decided not to stop at the zebra crossing.

If you live in a busy area or need to go shopping sometimes it is just needed. Kids are much faster than you think!

I remember a single dad shopping alone with his child in the store last month, he loses his kid and we shut the store down looking for the 2 y/o. Turns out the little rugrat made it out the store and is down in the mall wandering around. Everyone was so relieved including customers but then folk gave the dad the side eye because he made it so far in the mall before anyone dad noticed he was gone.

Everyone's face went from Big smile to Geek as soon as the little boy was found safe. Pops needed to invest in a leash asap lol

IMO I feel like you must not be able to control your kid if you need a leash for them. I wouldn't use one, my child aint no animal.
