Sigh. Hijabs are elegant and fashionable. Even at one point wearing a scarf on your head was a high fashion and French riviera look (a la Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hep etc). Because Muslim women wear a scarf or veil that is an issue in a country? Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Um what are you talking about?

No one is called a bigot when we come on here and talk about white people. To me no group is exempt. How I feel is how I feel. I think the culture is oppressive therefore I don't care.

In the culture I know females start wearing them when they are "of age" which to me means a fear of a women's sexuality. That is disturbing.

I see a lot of them over here using actual printed scarves to cover their hair. Some have even taken to wearing it with a low bun like some west-Indians (although I really think that version is a misguided attempt to "fit in") but most don't expose their necks.
Hell, I wear scarves myself when my hair is looking messy and there's nothing religious about it. I've actually had someone ask me at a former job why I was "wearing that thing over my head". It took me a minute to understand that he thought I had converted. It's really all fueled by racism but they had to try and find a more "intellectual" reason to present it, so they act like it's a separation of religion vs state thing.

I have to admit that I don't find the males very friendly, tbh. And I believe it's a sex thing because arabs and blacks hang a lot together out here. The women are super friendly, though.
