I have been using castor oil for about 3 weeks. I use it twice weekly and been using it as a pre-poo treatment. I massage it every day on my edges and nape because those are my problem areas at the moment. I have noticed sometimes when I put it in my hair, i have more shedding than normal. Its not excessive shedding but it is more than I normal shed. Is this normal and should I stop using it? I need someone's advice Confused

Castor oil makes me shed like crazy too because its soooo sticky. What I do to stop that is to seriously dilute it with other oils such as almond, coconut, avocado, grapeseed etc. I also only put it on my scalp and never on the length of my hair. To make sure that I put the least amount necessary, I dip my fingers in the oil, part my hair and rub it on my scalp in sections. This way I minimize how much gets on my strands. This seems to work well for me in those instances I actually use it. I tend not to use castor oil very much though. If you still shed after diluting it, I say stop using it and try something else. Just listen to your hair. You can try massaging in essential oils to stimulate growth instead (Peppermint, Rosemary, Lavender, Geranium, Cedarwood, Thyme, Sage, Ylang Ylang). Just remember to dilute them with carrier oils!

I diluted it with peppermint, sweet almond and lavender oil but i still majority of castor oil mixed in with these oils. I probably should add more of the other oils to even it out. I also notice when I use less castor oil its not as much shedding so maybe im just using to much of it lol. Thanks for the help :)

I have used Jamaican Black Castor Oil but my hair stopped getting moisture from it. Has anyone ever tried Tropic Isle Living Coconut Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Food http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WI3LEA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007WI3LEA&Code=as2&tag=sb053f-20 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WI3LEA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007WI3LEA&linkCode=as2&tag=sb053f-20 ?

It’s not a oil but more of a grease. I am so tired of tiring a hair working with one product and then start rejecting and being dry and brittle.

You could try increasing your deep conditioning treatments. Your hair may be dry and needs increased moisture.

You can do black tea rinse for shedding.

Good tips. the shedding was the reason why I stopped using castor oil. It just didn't work out for me at all.
