Nah, Jamiraquai wasn't soul at all. Definitely different, but with the
exception of the first track he came out with (the name escapes me at
the moment), there was nothing soul based about the arrangements of his
music.

It was acid jazz. I'm a fan of theirs as well. They did very, very well in the UK and Europe. Not sure which song is my favourite but I love these two

I don't really know if you'll classify them as soul, but Jamiroquai.
| Nevermind then. Where Massari at though?

I love Jamiroqui...but I'm pretty open to music and spend more time listening to House music in all its variations. I think here in the US they were viewed as a bit of a novelty and then wore off fairly quickly.

The video for Virtual Insanity might have had something to do with that. I think it overshadowed the music.
It's like how the Sledgehammer video completely overshadowed what was a really, really good song.

This thread is fun. But it also has given me some new music to listen to.

Totally agree, and it's a shame when things like that
happen to artists - especially imports. Aqua (Denmark) had that issue
after Barbie Girl. Psy is another example as he's actually a legit rap
artist in Korea but Gangnam Style totally gives Korean music an over the
top bubble-gum stupid feel.

SMH.
Steve Winwood is another artist who I wouldn't call soul but there was an R&B feel to a lot of his songs. I'm listening to The Finer Things now *dances awkwardly*

maybe that's why most of the good white soul singers aren't from America. The ones in Europe have harsher experiences.

Yes exactly.

Steve Winwood as lead singer of The Spencer Davis Group back in the 60s. I love his voice but he toned down the soul later in his career.
