That's fair. I understand your view. May I know who you consider great soul singers/personal favorites? |
Some of my personal fav's; Donnie Hathaway, Curtis Mayfield, Aretha, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Al Green. There is something moving about they way they sing and how they sing it.

I love all of them, specifically Donny.
How do you feel about Robin Thicke? I think many people consider him a soul artist, that in which I do not.

The only artist that can sing in falsetto his entire album is Smokey Robinson. I really can't get into Robin Thicke and that damn falsetto singing of his. Take away that R&B beat and you have a regular singetr. That goes for Justin Timberlake as well. I do like the voice of the guy Martha Ambrosia has a song with.

Robin Thicke can sang but I wouldn't consider him a soul artist. An R&B artist, yes, but I would take it as far as soul music.

I just am not convinced with Robin's music, sure I like some of his older songs but he's not soulful to me in the least.
You mean Daley! He's an amazing person. I think he's a great musician, very talented and soulful voice. Prince inspired.

Honestly, I don't think that there are any current black soul singers. Where are they at ??

I definitely agree with you. I'm actually glad you said this because there are but none of which you'd hear. I mean sure Sharon Jones and Michael Kiwaunaka are around, but none convince me, it's all very gimmicky. Badu, D'Angelo, Ms Hill, all for me are in leagues of their own neo-soul.

Both Kwabs and Lianne are quite Jazzy and for me it's so beautiful, because as a jazzy singer/songwriter, I really appreciate the lost art of jazz and true soul.
