Have any of you ordered from ASOS? and had to pay import duty fees..I ordered a dress from there to be shipped to Toronto and had to pay $51.03 in import duty fees which was half the cost of the dress. Just wondering if that was normal.

Thanks

Which carrier was it shipped by? (UPS, USPS/Canada Post, DHL...etc.)

ETA: I know with UPS, if it's shipped standard (ground) you're responsible for the payment of duties, taxes, and brokerage fees.

The cost of the duties and taxes are based on the price of the item and are typically a small amount...the brokerage/clearance fees is where they get you.

Next time, see if you can choose your own broker...it may help cut down on costs.

I haven't ordered from them yet out of fear that this very scenario would unfold but a coworker of mine has on numerous occasions (practically her whole damn wardrobe comes from there) and she never pays duty fees. Some people are luckier than others when they order online from abroad. I remember ordering wigs from the U.S. and paying almost as much as the order in duty fees. I think once they have your name on some kind of database, you'll always end up paying for foreign orders, whereas some people get away with it.

This. It depends on what shipper you use.

The post office doesn't change brokerage fees, i order hair from the states and products from the UK ( not clothes) and never paid any extra besides shipping. I heard that Fedex doesn't charge either, but don't quote me on that.

I know that DHL and UPS charge Brokerage fees.
