It is very difficult to get the help especially when the person has to be willing to get the help. People cannot be held against their will. No matter how crazy you think someone is you cannot have them committed unless they want to be committed or they have done something warranting they are a danger to themselves or others and proving that is an issue within it self. I hate that the parents are being blamed for this devestation even though to a degree it is warranted. I think changes need to be made in our health care/mental health system where you can have someone committed against their will but then you will have a slippery slope.
(disclaimer: I have not read all the comments and don't know if this has been mentioned)
because of incidents like what happened last week.
its actually getting easier to seek help for those who need it.. or get them determined to be as PINS.
its not easy.. and no I'm not saying that.. but its becoming easier.
there is no paper trail to suggest that Mom did anything to get her son help.
and thats not what is acceptable IMO.
Im not insensitive in the least.
what the gunman did... is horrible. no excuses.
mom being murdered...is horrible.. no excuses.
it would be one thing if mom exhausted all avenues in getting her son help.. and then this incident still occurred.
but she didn't... and ppl need to question if other options were taken by Mom. could that incident have been avoided.
