I got my braids done yesterday and I was pretty pleased with it till I got home and realized that some of then are too tight, I guess I didnt notice it when I was in the shop because I was so anxious to leave after being in the chair for sooo long, the ones around the nape of my neck and around my ears are the worst, I cant even lay down on them properly,  Does anyone know of anything that will help with the tightmess so I can get some relief. I got micros. TIA

Brina, you just spent umpteen hours and and dollars in the shop- I would like to think if you went back to the stylist and told her your problem that she could possibly redo the ones that are too tight(if she would like to keep her clients). If that isn't possible- do you know anyone who can rebraid those tight ones for you? HTH!

Thanks for your advice ladies, however I could'nt go back to the salon, so I fixed it myself. I got a spray bottle and wet down my hair(the hair is wet and wavy) and gentlly pulled the ones that were too tight to lossen them up from the root, and the ones that were just unberable I just took them out completely, those were aorund the nape of my neck so no ones gonna see them anyway. And I only ended up taking out about five of them. Anyway now my head does'nt feel like it's on fire and I can lay on them with no pain. Anyway lesson learned. Next time i'll be sure to let them know not to do it so tight.

I know it sounds weird for me to replying because im a guy but I see where you are coming from.

When I first started growing my hair (3b) I used to get it cornrowed with hair to help my braids stay in longer and had the same problem.  1st you have to tell the stylist while they are doing them that you feel they are too tight and 2nd if you have already left try getting in the shower (with a showercap on of course) and see if the steam will help loosen it up.  The steam thing sounds crazy but someone suggested it to me before when I had that problem and it works.

Beware of traction alopecia from tight braids.

how do you know if your braids are too tight? my head hurts and my scalp is pulled... but i thought that's how it always is right after you get your hair braided. but i don't want my hair to pull out, the whole point of my braids is to grow out my natural hair so i can cut the relaxer out.

This is why I do my braids myself, even though its hard and my arms hurt something awful sometimes and they may not be 100% perfect but learning how even though its hard work turns out to be easier than maybe having to deal with that "traction alopecia" MissJessie's mentioned, I swear the name alone makes me cringe, paying all those dollars just so my hair can fall out no way!
