i'm thinking about putting box braids in my 4 yr olds hair , with added hair...do you think that would be ok for a 4 yr old to have "fake" hair in. when ever i braid her natural hair it gets fuzzy by the next day. and it would be so much easier with it already braided and me waking up all early to go to work, i wouldnt have to do her hair.

When my lil one was 5, i put kinky twists in her hair. i was terrified because all the grown ups i knew, it made their hair fall out/break off/ thin out. but she didn't have any of those problems. i left them in for 2 months once and 3 months the second time. it just sucked taking them out and she says she doesn't want them again because she didn't like sitting there getting it done. i put some 2 strand twists in her own hair and i think i'll stick with those. (in my fotki) but everybody loved her hair. forget what people say anyway, you're the one who has to get up in the morning and comb it. do what's best for you and your lil one.

It should be ok but pay close attention to her hair before you braid it and notice if you see it coming out at the roots while it is still done.  You would see the little roots of her natural hair down at the base of the braid.  Some synthetic and chemically treated braiding hair mjay taker her hair out.  This happened to quite a few people I know, both adults and children.

If you do it, please keep her hair moisturized daily. and don't forget that you still have to take care of her hair while in braids by shampooing and conditioning it.

I also have a four year old.  I keep her hair in braids.  I My favorite style is the Short Bob.  we always get compliments on that style. It is so cute!  Just make sure the edges are braided very loose!

I started putting box braids in my daughters hair at the age of 4 as well depending on the hair I would leave the ends out or I would put rubber bands on the end. But now that she is 6 I will be burning her ends.

I'm glad you started this post! My daughter is 7 and is very active with sport and recreation.  I've been getting her hair cornrowed with hair added but I wanted her to have a different look. Can she get kinky twist?
