I know you ladies can point me in the right direction.

I have a unit that is still lovely, still wearable, but I've decided to go darker.  This is a big thing for me because I started with units in a 4/27 (when I wore braids, I was a 27 only!) then moved to a 4, and now I'm a 3.  Well, after years of light hair, I decided to go with my natural hair color, which is a 2.  I have a unit that's a 3, planning on darkening it to a 2.  Problem is, this wavy unit is almost straight and I wanted to boil her to make her wavy again.  I've done it with other units, but never had to dye those.

So, should I boil first, then dye the unit?  Or dye the unit and then boil it?  I'm thinking boil first, then dye, but I need your opinions and talents.

I don't KNOW cause I've not done it, but.. boiling is probably going to leach color like mad, so I'd say, boil, then color.  IMHO.

The dye will definitely come out when you boil it. Boil first then color it.

OP can you please explain your process of boiling a LF? I'm unsure how with LF's I have a unit I'd love to make into a bodywave. IA with everyone boil then dye

Ladykmp, I learned how to boil a LF from YouTube videos.  The first time I did it, I was unsatisfied with the wave and boiled it for a longer period of time.  You need to use olive oil and a conditioner in the water.  I used foil instead of wave rods because one person on YT said they become soft.

Your best bet is to use an old unit first, watch a bunch of YT videos and cross your fingers.

I dyed a unit - I did use perm rods but kept a eye on the situation. I boiled the unit for about 3 hours to bring a bit of life back to a body wave.
