Mine is the other way around my hair likes being air dried better I don't get any damage from it. When I blow dry it I get breakage and my hair also turns out really bad. Haven't done it since.

It's confusing when you realise that airdrying doesn't feel so good and you think you're some abnormal case because nobody's made any articles about this. But when you come online and find out loads of people have the same issue, it's really quite funny.

I'm the same. My hair got really rough, dry, tangled and weak from air drying even with leave-ins. When I started my journey last year in July, sure it helped thicken my hair out a little. I totally stopped using heat. But earlier this year it seemed to become less productive. After I blow dried my hair in July and it felt really good. I decided, why not? Haven't looked back since and my hair has less breakage than any other time on my journey. I use a low heat setting AND heat protectant though and I'm usually in braids so I don't do it too often.

I air dried my hair last week and before that I thought my thick head was immune to air drying, like my strands were laughing at me. I conditioned and moisturized like no one business, combed it out and voila it actually worked this time.
I think it all depends on the method

Hmm, you people got me thinking. Maybe I should try a different method of air-drying. So far the methods I've tried are wrapping it with a silk scarf (smooth edges but tangled everywhere else), putting my hair in twists before washing and drying (dries out my ends a lot more and doesn't get as clean), I also can't comb or do anything to my hair while it's wet because it SNAPS!

I think I may go back to blow drying my hair. I didn't have so much issues when I was.

I stopped blowdrying and it seems like there has been no improvements.  I blowdried to see if there was any difference and my problem area still remains.

I blowdry with a brush with smooth ends and a low setting of heat.

I think there is some confusion here.  I think the point of air  drying is to be in a no heat regimen. If you air dry and then try to flat iron it, then you are defeating the purpose of trying to avoid heat.

What I am hearing is that your relaxer is not straight enough to allow the hair to be styled in the manner you desire without flat ironing. Perhaps a wetset would be the alternative so that you can avoid heat?

If you can not wet set  and follow it with a dry wrap, then, you might indeed have no alternative than to use heat to get the style you want, or else try to have it relaxed straighter.
Some helpful hints. I apply coconut oil to all of the hair while it is still moist. Heavier hair could use a small amount of castor oil while it is still moist... then follow the steps in the 2nd video below.

This video on a ROLLER WRAP with hot comb at roots (if touchup is overdue)  might be helpful to see how you might get the style you desire without direct heat to the bulk of the hair and the ends of the hair .

More to the point though, this video would show how to AIR DRY ONLY (provided the relaxer permitted)... Then she could just oil it and wrap it if desired.

So these videos give 2 options that are GREAT guides as to how to go about a no heat or low heat hair regimen.

This may also help as another no heat option... wet silk wrap with flat iron to new growth only if required.
