I made sure I did my research before this purchases on how to deal with
curly hair. I washed, detangled while wet, conditioned, deep conditioned
too. I did a silicon mix treatment on it as well. It just never would
give me the time of day .
Tried 1/2 water,1/2 conditioner, even tried my Mixed Chicks leave in
and Herbal Essences AND Suave Coconut too during the 2+yrs I've had
her..
Braided her at night, sometimes NOT. Took her off at night, etc. etc.
Now, I was NEW to curlies, I bought a flw before her too BUT still new
to it all back then(and still learning) so I was no angel but I did the
best I could with the knowledge I had.
So honestly, I'm just wondering where did I go wrong and WHAT can I do with her now besides plan a "wiguneral"
BTW every member is invited...

It sounds to me that you did all of the right things. The only thing I do differently is that I detangled when dry before washing, and also periodically finger comb when wearing the unit to minimize tangles creeping in.
From the looks of it, it seems that you paid for some overpriced BSS hair, sorry to say. I've had curly/wavy BSS hair act like this. . .

Just thought of something - is the top salvageable enough to cut out to make a closure?? If it is, maybe you can use the closure and the wefts to make a u-wig.

sorry about your wig..the remaining hair was beautiful tho..i find that if a vet gives instructions on how to make changes to a wig that it should be followed to the t (precise amounts, etc) or as in the experience of this board disastrous results follow ...sorry again for your loss

Me thinks that if the hair started acting up after a couple of wears, and you were diligently detangling it every day, then the wig was probably not made with cutically-aligned hair. Especially for it to knot up as badly as it did. |
^This!
There was another member who had this same problem from Ruth’s. I ordered a curly lf from another company where the cuticle is aligned and have no problems. I use a solution which contains 1/4 conditioner, 3/4 water, a few drops of glycerin and a few drops of John Freida’s Frizz Eaze hair serum in a spray bottle. This keeps my unit looking fresh every day.
I always detangle my curly unit while damp or wet BEFORE I wash my unit. Less breakage and easier to wash and manage. This will be almost 2 months of wearing my unit everyday and it still looks fresh, manageable, soft and still spring to the curls. This curly unit was a lot less in cost than the one curly unit I was looking at from Ruth’s. So it makes a difference if the cuticle is aligned or not.
ETA: Here is an explanation of cuticle alignment I found online.
Cuticle Alignment
In Remy Hair extensions the cuticle is alighted naturally from root to tip. If the cuticles are not aligned from root to tip the scales on the hair with cause friction with one another. This frictions causes severe matting, tangling and this will cause the hair to loose luster and shine. It is very important that the cuticles are also healthy.
The cuticle is the most important part of the hair because it protects each hairs cortex from having friction with the other. Friction is the mains cause of matting, shedding, excessive dryness.
NON-Remy Hair
Non Remy hair are made up of 100% human hair, although the hair extensions made using “mixed strands/fallen hair” which do not have cuticle alignment. The extensions are made with the cuticles going in all different directions.
* Cuticles are not aligned from root to tip
* The hair becomes matted or severely tangled after several washes
* The hair looses its luster and shine after several months
* Excessive dryness and difficulty to brush or comb

You still have several options for your unit. Don't worry about the inside lace.
As tangled as you unit was, it was to be expected that you would lose some hair. Depending on how curly or bushy you like to wear it you might not even notice the hair loss. I have extended the life of several of my units by sewing in wefts in the same general curl pattern/texture of the wig. They blend in with the wig hair pretty nicely and make the unit look fuller.
Or, if you don't want to wear it every day, and you don't use glue or tape and just need a unit to 'throw on and go', it will look good and serve the purpose.

did you do the bleach bath with the upped doseage?
COMB THAT UNIT OUT COMPLETELY B4 IT TOUCHES THE WATER..Ok mircowave the hot tap water only for 2 min. YOU ADD THE BLEACH TO THE WATER AFTER YOU HEATED THE WATER NOT BEFORE. you should fix a big mixing bowl with shampoo and conditioner b/c you will dip the unit in that shampoo/conditoner solution in between the 2 parts.. the bleach a little MORE THAN THE 1/4TH A CUP BUT less than 1/2 cup + one gallon of water, put in the bleach and water for 3 minutes lift it up every now DURING THAT 3 MIN., and then with a wide tooth comb attempt to comb thru starting at the ends.. its not necessary to get it detangled in this part, just start it and let it soak in that bleach for the full 3 min.s use a timer.. dip in the shampoo/conditioner, while you prepare A NEW BATCH OF WATER FOR THE AMMONIA SOLUTION (NEVER MIX AMMONIA AND BLEACH TOGETHER)(mircowave the water 2 mins) (AGAIN NEVER HEAT THE WATER WITH THE AMMONIA IN IT, ADD IT AFTER THE WATER IS HEATED NOT BEFORE) for the ammonia a little MORE THAN THE 1/4TH A CUP but a little less than 1/2 cup + 3 CUPS OF WATER (not a gallon) the extra percentage of bleach and ammonia amounts are for a unit that has already matted b4 ONLY, not one that's trying to prevent matting. You need to stick with the 1/4 th cup measurement for prevention.. when you put it in the ammonia mix, put it all the way down in there for 3 min's use a timer. lift it up and being the combing again, and comb it all the way thru then lay it back down in the solution to soak, do a comb thru a couple of times during the 3 min process.. you'll see the tangles come out completely easy in the ammonia.. the ammonia part is the truth for detangle. then put back in the shampoo/conditioner solution.. then squeeze the excess water out, and begin to saturate it completely with conditioner (argan oil, cowboy magic) comb it thru again, it should be silky smooth and tangle free now. and put it in a zip lock baggie UNLOCKED, just fold it over, and nuke it for 30 SECONDS ONLY.. and then just let it sit in the conditioner a little bit.. then remove from the baggie, (don't rinse yet) and place it back on the wig head and pin it down.. then begin the rinse of the conditioner out of the hair running your finger thru the hair in a downward direction.. and finish the rinse and let it air dry..

If you did exactly what SB advised suggested and it still did not work............. WOW. As a last resort, you might also try Survivor, to see if it will untangle the hair. I would leave the survivor on overnight (at a minimum) with some some Roux Porosity Control Corrector & Conditioner and comb it out and see what happens.
