I forget where I read this from, but I read that there are a large population of them in three states in Mexico.  One of them is Vera Cruz.

I am very interested in Afro Mexicans. Thanks for this post.

Had an interesting convo with an older Mexican lady in the bread store. She asked me what I was and I told her I was a negra or black woman she didn't want to believe me

She told me that I am not an africana but mixed woman. I tried to explain but she didn't get it. Actually. I got the feeling that she was confused as to why I would want to call myself black.
