They keep them in tiny ass pens/pools that are only twice as big (or a bit more) than the performance pool. Now, how do you expect an animal who's used to having the freedom of entire oceans to feel about swimming in circles in a tiny (compared to the ocean) pool?

Plus one of my friends used to work at the SF zoo with the tigers...he stopped doing it and now works with a preserve in Ethiopia. We both agree, wild animals need to be free, not in fake environments.

yes this is what I meant.  cause it's getting harder for animals to live in the wild and it's 100% cause of humans. untill people learn how to act i don't know man.

@model I think it depends on the type of zoo.  I don't think we should have animals doing things for our entertainment but there are zoos where dangerous animals are being treated like cats and dogs, just being taken care of.  Then you have reserves.

It's just dangerous out there for animals now, pouchers global warming......

I respect reserves. That's very different, and more of a conservation effort while the animal is really in its own habitat.

But zoos...no thank you.

But Nik! Killer whale sounds much more interesting than orca tho.

I would much more excited to go shell out $ to go see a 'murderous' starfish exhibit instead a plain ol boring starfish exhibit.LOL

OT but this reminds me of when the python (or whatever snake it was) went missing from the Bronx Zoo.

In a few hours it had its own twitter handle and everything, talking about "lovely day for a ssssstroll through Pelham Parkway" and "Ssssssoundview is sssssso lovely this time of year". LOL

Killing does not insinuate that a crime has been committed tho

It would seem redundant adjacent to the name of any other animal except Whales are known for feeding on little stuff like fish and plankton, so I guess "killer whales" implies that they kill other stuff Stern Smile

Idk... White people logic *shrugs*

Did anyone watch that Discovery show on Antarctica? There was a segment on Orcas...but of course they called them "killer whales".

Orcas are not to be played with. They hunt in packs and kill seals. They've truly earned that name! And they can take down certain sharks too.
